This amazing opalized petrified wood stone is what inspired the Elegant Beach Bum Collection.
What do you see when looking at this spectacular stone pendant? I see the beach.
The Gal necklace. This opalized wood necklace is unparalleled. Here’s what Sharon Elaine Thompson had to say about this stone in an article she wrote for Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist in 2018. “One of the newest surprises on the market is an opalized petrified wood from west Java. It may be the only deposit of its type in the world.” She went on to describe it as “…sky blue over darker tan and brown chalcedony.”
Although the stone needs very little embellishment. I chose to frame it with delicate twisted Argentium silver wire. The stone sits within a silver nest which rests on a silver plate. Not only is the bezel cup hand crafted and constructed but the bail and clasp are as well.
Green garnet gemstones accent the clasp along with petite, white pearls.
Additionally the long and short cable chain is Argentium too. The overall length is 19 inches.
Put each of these components together and the result is a spectacular opalized wood necklace.
As soon as I laid eyes on it, I knew I had to have it. It’s so unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Consequently, The Gal Necklace became the inspiration for the Elegant Beach Bum Collection.
Although The Gal Necklace stands on it’s own, it pairs beautifully with other pieces in the Elegant Beach Bum Collection.

Gal means “wave”. That’s what I see when I look at the remarkable stone. Waves rolling onto a sandy beach with dunes further back. What do you see?
